Rick Larson ist Undercover-Agent in Diensten von Lone Star. Er wurde mit einer wasserdichten Identität ausgestattet, um die illegalen Aktivitäten der Gangs im Metroplex von Seattle zu überwachen. Doch plötzlich scheint sein Name ganz oben auf der Abschußliste zu stehen. Aber nicht nur die Exkomplizen wollen ihm ans Leder, auch ein Elfen-Konzern ist hinter ihm her. Und als Lone Star, die eigene Firma, einen Sprengstoffanschlag auf Rick Larson verübt, weiß dieser, dass sein Leben keinen einzigen Nuyen mehr wert ist. Der Cop mit den ehernen Moralvorstellungen muß untertauchen. Und wenn er überleben will, muß er sich mit Leuten einlassen, die er bisher als Abschaum verachtet hat: mit Shadowrunnern....

2054 - L’agent de Lone Star Security Services Rick Larson travaille sous couverture pour faire tomber les Cutters, un gang qui a le vent en poupe. Mais quand sa couverture vole en éclat, l’opération est compromise. Et plus important encore, sa vie est menacée. Alors qu’il tente de s’échapper, Larson découvre une conspiration qui le conduit à emprunter un sentier inconnu : la cavale. Pour survivre, il va devoir composer avec ses convictions et traiter avec la pire vermine de la rue : les shadowrunners.

Seattle szerződéses rendőrsége, a Lone Star vesztésre áll a város új urai, a bandák ellen. Rick Larson már évek óta beépített ügynökként dolgozik, és úgy véli, ismeri a játékszabályokat. A bandák erőszakkal és megfélemlítéssel, fegyverekkel és varázslatokkal uralkodnak a területükön, penge élén táncoló, ingatag egyensúlyban, amit csak egy paraszthajszál választ el a totális háborúskodástól. Larson a város egyik legveszélyesebb bandájába, a Darálók közé épült be, és kiváló pozícióban van ahhoz, hogy érezze ezt az egyensúlyt, reagáljon rá és jelentse a tapasztalatait a főnökeinek. De amikor az egyensúly váratlanul ismeretlen irányba billen, Larson hirtelen a rossz oldalon találja magát: nemcsak a banda tűz ki vérdíjat a fejére, de maga a Lone Star is.
